Hate Hypocrisy: Sunni vs Shi'a

When it's about our religion...

When it's about a different religion or sect...

This is something in some parts of our community. We are very sensitive about the stereotypes and accusations made about our group, but when it is about a different group, we believe it without question. I usually notice this when it involves a group that there has been some historic friction with. For example, this happens a lot with Sunnis and Shi'as. I have heard some of the most ridiculous things about Shi'as said by Sunnis and I'm sure it is the same the other way around. What is interesting is that a lot of the accusations made by non-Muslims about Islam are made by some Muslims against the sect they have beef with. Now I'm not saying that we have to accept the theological differences that exist with the different sects or spin-offs of Islam. We can have discussions and debates on these topics, but we can resort to stereotypes and broad judgments about groups that will only grow hatred and impede cooperation.

  1. This hypocrisy is very rampant. It's sad we refuse to key into our common kalimah but focus on our differences instead.
