Salah: You Get What You Put Into It + Video On How To Improve The Quality of Your Prayers

I remember a few years ago, I was praying at the masjid. Of course, someone's cellphone went off during the prayer playing some music. It's funny how it has almost become a sunnah (prophetic tradition) to say, "please turn off your cell phones" before prayer, yet there is ALWAYS one person who forgets. After the prayer, a brother said to the entire congregation:

"Hey! If you're not gonna let us concentrate during the prayer, all we're doing is exercising!"
Yea, it went something like that. But the point is if we are not concentrating in our prayer, nor doing it with the quality that it deserves, then what are we doing besides burning a couple of calories?

A lot of us have this problem where our prayer is devoid of any feeling of connection to Allah. This is a huge problem considering that prayer is main reason for our creation. Allah says, "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me" (Quran 51:56).

When I was researching for the last post I rediscovered a great video by Muhammad Alshareef on how we can improve the quality of our prayers. What surprised me the most about the video was how he proposed that we should measure our prayer. Most of the time, we only take an organized approach to solving problems that have to do with this worldly life, but when it comes to things like worship, we expect our problems to be solved spontaneously. In reality, we NEED to take an organized approach to improving in our religion, or else we wont make much progress or even know how much progress we're making (this is a reminder most of all to myself). So let's make an organized and intelligent effort into improving our salah and InshAllah fulfill the purpose of our creation.

Before you leave, please help us out by sharing some of the things you do to increase the quality of your salah in the comments section! May Allah reward you!

  5. As a woman I can appreciate the special quality of prayer especially during those days when you can't pray! At first it seems like a great "break" but that's just for like a day ...then you really start to miss it and you realize that your behaviour and your mood and your ikhlaq is all off and it is all because of PRAYER!!! Salah even the one that doesn't have the utmost khushoo just does something to the heart ....something so incredible that cannot be done with anythign else. If this is the case with the prayer that's missing the most khushoo (concentration)..imagine the one with a high Khushoo! May Allah make us amongst those for whom prayers is a pleasure and comfort like it was for the Prophet salilahu alayi wasalam.
